My Personal Favorite SEO & Website Traffic Monitoring Tools [2022]

my favourite seo tools

Tools do not make you a good SEO. However, having great tools at your disposal makes your job a lot easier.

Having been employed as an SEO for over 3 years, there are certain tools that I can highly recommend because they are affordable, easy-to-use and comprehensive.

You can use any of SEO tools in this article to monitor traffic performance, conduct keyword research, crawl your website and more.

Keywords Everywhere

At the moment, this is by far my favorite tool. At a glance, it allows me to see the volume and CPC for search terms.

Keywords Everywhere is a simple browser add-on that you can install on Chrome or Firefox. It’s powerful and affordable but the most enjoyable aspect is the user interface. However, Google is looking to roll out an enhanced autocomplete feature that may make this tool obsolete.

Keyword Keg

My go-to source for instant keyword research data has been Keyword Keg. The tool’s easy-to-use interface, quick results, and stability have solidified its position in my SEO arsenal.

The original version of the tool was incredibly granular. The interface used to show you how difficult it was to rank for a user intent based on off-page difficulty and on-page difficulty. However, this feature has been discontinued. Nonetheless, it is still my go-to tool when I need to get keyword data.

Screaming Frog

Screaming Frog is the magnum opus of SEO tools. In my opinion, if you are only using Ahrefs or SEMrush for SEO audits, you are doing your job wrong.

We can debate whether Screaming Frog is an apt name for this tool, in my opinion crawling spider would be a more appropriate name. But we can’t deny, when it comes to utility, Screaming Frog is above the rest.

Screaming Frog scans websites and provides an easy-to-understand analysis of the website’s health.

The tool aids in the detection of anomalies such as wrong meta tags, duplicated content, and headings, 404 errors, and faulty redirections, and much more!

Keep in mind that Screaming Frog struggles when crawling large websites. If you are auditing a website with hundreds of thousands of pages, Deepcrawl is your best bet.

My Favorite Website Monitoring Tools

With the website traffic monitoring tools, you’ll get more insight into your site. You’ll be able to observe what’s working effectively and which areas of your site could use some extra tweaking.

Detailed visitor information allows you to tweak your website in a way that makes the most sense to your target audience. With website analytics information you can see what pages and links your visitors are clicking on. Make sure you capitalize on any user data you receive.

Some website tracking software will even provide you feedback on your advertising campaigns. This information can be invaluable; especially, if you want to generate income from your website.

A multitude of website traffic monitoring tools exists online; many of them are 100% free.

What is Web Analytics?

Web analytic tools measure and record important information about a user and his/her activities on a particular site. With information from analytics website owners can see which search engines, affiliates, and social media companies direct traffic to their site.

Website owners can see how long users stay on their website if they made a purchase or filled out electronic forms.

Site owners can even find out the demographics of the people who visit their site. This data includes users’ age, gender, and location.

These traffic monitoring tools are simple to use. Website owners just have to register their website with their preferred website analytical tool to get started.

Once everything is integrated data begins to collect and reports begin to generate. The report can be analyzed in order to create an effective marketing strategy for your website.

Listed below are the best online analytic tools being used today.

Top Tools to Measure Traffic

Below are some of my favorite web analytics tools for tracking users.

Google Analytics

GA4

This robust analytics tool, created by Google, is the most popular website traffic monitoring tool. The free version of this software gifts users with several data points to study and analyze. In addition to the free version, there is a paid version called Google Analytics 360.

The paid version has been designed with larger-sized sites in mind. These sites have over a million visitors per month and create more data points to study. However, I have not been tried the paid version myself.

The free version works extremely well for websites that have less than a million visitors per month and are smaller in size.

With the free version you will have access to the following user information:

  1. Location
  2. What or who brought traffic to your site (direct access, search engines, and websites.)
  3. Sales volumes and transactions

This list is in no way exhaustive of all the types of user information you will have access to from Google Analytics.

How to Add Google Analytics to Your Website

  1. Login to Google Analytics
  2. Register your site
  3. Copy the provided HTML code
  4. Review your website’s source code
  5. Identify the tag on all pages of your site
  6. Paste Google’s tracking code before the tag

Websites like WordPress and Magento use CMS (Content Management Software).  There are tutorials available on the internet that can show you how to set up Google Analytics on websites that use CMS.

Crazy Egg

Exclusive features like Scroll Map, Confetti, and Overlay cause people to flock to this analytic tool created by Neil Patel in 2005.

These innovative features can be used to help site owners understand user behavioral patterns and interests.

This analytic tool allows site owners to identify which parts of their website users find desirable. It is important to take advantage of this knowledge and optimize your site.  Looking at your site from your audience’s perspective can translate into more user engagement and a higher conversion rate.

Crazy Egg offers a free 30-day trial. During this time you will be able to see if this analytic tool will fulfill your website monitoring tool needs.

Kissmetrics

kissmetrics

Like Crazy Egg Kissmetrics is the brainchild of Neil Patel. This traffic monitoring tool is easy-to-use. It provides users with insights to help transform key data points into a workable plan to increase traffic.

With this tool website, owners can track a user’s movement through their site. This analytics tool identifies possible site weaknesses so that you can fix them before potential business is lost.

With this software, you can compare the performances of any market methods you are using to see which one is providing you with the best return for your investment.  Some marketing methods that people employ include SEO, social media, and Google Ads.

This tool is not free but it provides a demo that you can try out.

Conclusion

No matter what SEO or web analytics tool you use to conduct research or track user behavior for your website, you must do your research and ensure you are choosing a tool that boosts your productivity without hurting your wallet. As an SEO specialist, making informed decisions will improve your website’s visibility and grow your audience. Use the data effectively to give yourself a leg up on the competition.
